Itinerary – 10 Day Outback Queensland Tour 2022

We welcome you to join us as we travel country Queensland. This tour has been especially designed to highlight the vastness and special atmosphere our Queensland outback towns have to offer without forgetting how to do it all in luxury in the comfort of our touring coach.   This tour covers it all; Tropical cities to dinosaur fossils to the Gulf of Carpentaria and breathtaking forests to the open country plains.
Day 1 – Friday 20th May 2022                                                                     D

Home – Cairns

Today starts our adventure to Outback Queensland. After our morning home pickups (or other preplanned arrangements) , we travel to the airport where we board our flight for our arrival into Sunny Cairns, often considered the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef but also popular for it’s proximity to lush rainforests and the Daintree NP.  After checking into our accommodation, settle in before enjoying our first dinner as a group together at our motel. Day 2 –Saturday 21st  May 2022                                                                  B

Free Day

Today is yours to explore Cairns at your leisure. Whether it be an excursion out on the Great Barrier Reef, a scenic helicopter flight, a journey on the sky rail gondola or just a stroll along the beach, the choice is yours. Tonight is also a night for you to have dinner out on the town or simply order at our motel.

Day 3 – Sunday 22nd  May 2022                                                              BLD

Cairns – Georgetown

Today as we bid farewell to Cairns we head throughout the scenic rainforest area, making our way to the renowned Undara Lava Tubes at Mt. Surprise. Join a guided tour of these geological phenomena where you will gain a new appreciation of Mother Nature’s power. Afternoon travel sees us to our overnight stopover at Georgetown. Day 4 –Monday 23rd  May 2022                                                                     BD

Georgetown – Kurumba

This morning we head West along The Savannah Way, through the historic mining village of Croydon. Today’s agenda includes a “rattling” journey on the historic Gulflander train from Critters Camp to Normanton. Making our way to Karumba, enjoy a sunset cruise aboard “The Ferryman” on the Norman River and into “The Gulf”. Tonight enjoy a beachfront dinner overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Carpentaria. Day 5 – Tuesday 24th May 2022                                    BD

Kurumba – Cloncurry

Following the Burke & Wills Development Road South today, we journey through Normanton and past the 4 ways junction to our destination this evening in Cloncurry.  A common sight today will be the mighty roads trains powering along, playing their vital part in such rural communities.  Accom: Gidgee Inn Cloncurry Isa (Ph: 1300 979 746)

Day 6 – Wednesday  25th  May 2022                                         BD

Cloncurry – Winton

This morning we continue our journey as we make a pit stop at the Walkabout Creek Hotel, the home of Aussie icon, Crocodile Dundee! This afternoons travel sees us waltzing into the historical township Winton. Enjoy what will be like a step back in time as we take a walk through the new Waltzing Matilda Centre, which has been rebuilt after a fire destroyed the center in 2015. Day 7 –  Thursday 26th May 2022                                                             BD

Winton – Longreach

This morning we head to the ‘Age of Dinosaurs’ for a tour through the animals that came before us. This interesting exhibit has some of the best-preserved dinosaur fossils found in Australia. Back on the road again for only a short days travel finds us in Longreach, home of 2 brilliant Centres – The Stockman’s Hall of Fame, exhibiting the life and the legends of the Australian Outback  and the QANTAS museum, where our Aussie airline began. Day 8 –  Friday 27th May  2022                                                     BD

Longreach – Charleville

Before leaving Longreach we experience the adventure of the early days of flight in Australia with a visit to the Qantas Founders Outback Museum. Take a peep inside the retired planes and learn of their fascinating history. Next on our agenda we arrive in Barcaldine for morning tea, the Garden City of the West. It was here 400 shearers gathered under what is known know as the tree of knowledge in 1891 for a series of meetings out of which The Australian Labour Party was formed. Day 9- Saturday 28th May  2022                                                             BD

Charleville ~ Back O’ Bourke

Bidding farewell to Charleville, our course is set for home of an iconic bush character – the Cunnamulla Fella in the township of Cunnamulla. Another step back in time through the artesian time tunnel to further discover the history and creation of our great artesian basin. Crossing the border back into NSW as we travel through Enngonia, known for its bushranger history, as we find ourselves literally at the back O’ Bourke for tonight’s rest.

 

Day 10-  Sunday  29th May 2022                                              B

Bourke – Home

Departing Bourke this morning, our coach captain has it easy today with 200km of straight open roads as we traverse towards Nyngan. After our morning tea we continue our days travel through over the Great Dividing Range towards Merriwa and back into the Hunter Valley and back to your home. Thankyou
