Perth ~ Free Day

Enjoy a free day to relax and explore this magnificent city. The elegant riverside parks and gardens complement the languid beauty of the Swan River in this, Australia’s most “sunny” capital. The main street, Hay Street, with its Mall, provides an excellent opportunity for some retail therapy or perhaps just a quiet coffee in one of its many sidewalk cafes. Our accommodation is within easy walking distance.

Day 3 – Saturday 7th August 2021                                                                                BD

Perth ~ Kalgoorlie

This morning spend some time in Perth including a short tour around the city before continuing onto Kalgoorlie. Enjoy a brief   stop as we travel to overview the Super Pit and marvel at this huge excavation with massive trucks looking like ants below. This afternoon spend at your leisure. Day 4  – Sunday 8th August 2021                                                                   BD

Kalgoorlie ~ Norseman ~ Balladonia

Departing Kalgoorlie, we continue onwards to the old gold mining town of Norseman where legend has it that in the 1890’s a prospector’s horse “stumbled” on a nugget of gold. Here tin camels bring to mind the vital part played by these animals in early Australian transport. Start the trek on the Eyre Highway as we head East to our stopover at Balladonia. See the display of remnants of the U.S. Skylab which fell to Earth in this area in 1979. Accom: Balladonia Motel (Ph: 08 9039 3453)

Day 5 – Monday 9th August 2021                                                             BD

Balladonia – Caiguna – Border Village

The Coach Captain has it easy this morning while traversing one of the longest (181km) stretches of straight road in the world from Balladonia to Caiguna. The area under the Nullarbor Plain is riddled with a honeycomb of caves. In 1983 a French team of speleologists descended to a world record depth in the cave systems surrounding Cocklebiddy. Drop down Madura Pass and land at the        moving sands of Eucla, where the much photographed ruins of the Old Telegraph Station are slowly being engulfed by the creeping dunes. Finish off the day by meeting Rooey II (the big Roo) at Border Village on the boundary of West and South Australia. Accom: Border Village Motel (Ph: 08 9039 3474

Day 6 –  Tuesday 10th August 2021                                               BD

Nullarbor ~ Head of the Bight ~ Ceduna

Leaving the border, take in the breathtaking views from the cliffs that stretch 200 kilometres along the coastline above The Great Australian Bight. During the whale breeding season up to 100 Southern Right Whales frequent the Head of the Bight area. Onward past the outpost town of Nullarbor (meaning no trees); the area between here and Yalata is the most denuded of trees throughout the plain. Only dry stunted grasses and low lying hardy desert bushes are able to survive. Continuing east, Ceduna on the shores of Denial Bay, is our resting place for tonight. Accom: Ceduna Motor Inn (Ph: 08 8625 220)

Day 7  – Wednesday 11th August 2021                                     BD

Ceduna ~ Port Augusta

Departing Ceduna, or otherwise known as Australia’s Oyster Capital we set our sights for Port Augusta. Traveling along the Eyre highway we pass many small farming towns which consist mainly of 1 or 2 shops and huge grain silos. Having arrived at Port Augusta visit the Wadlata Outback centre where you’ll experience the outback from yesteryear to its present day. After our outback experience we’ll all enjoy some outback hospitality at Standpipe Golf Motor Inn (Ph: 08 8642 4033).
